Bernard is 57 and was
born and grew up in Fallowfield, Manchester, the second
youngest of six children. In May, 1970, he married Enid
and they moved to Little Lever, Bolton, followed by Haslingden,
Rossendale, where they have lived ever since. They have
four children: Michelle, Stephen, Nicholas & Matthew.
For the early part of his career, Bernard was a sales representative
for an aluminium firm. Thirty-two years ago he also started
a business called Rossendale Hampers, which is still operating
today. Bernard & Enid are also partners in Florida Golf
Homes, a business renting out holiday homes in Orlando,
Florida. Bernard started playing golf in 1984 and currently
has a handicap of 17, which he is hoping will decrease by
the end of next year!! He is a member of Rossendale Golf
Club and for 13 years has been playing with the Screenprint
Golf Society, this year in the position of captain. Bernard
has helped raise money for charity on several occasions
and in 1984 & 1987 he ran in the London Marathon to
raise money for the Morecambe Bay Cancer Help Centre &
Rossendale Hospice. Bernard has had the idea of playing
all the 18 hole golf courses in Scotland for several years.
He has decided to raise money for the Kirsty Appeal to help
the Francis House Children's Hospice because he feels it
a privilege and honour to be able to assist in maintaining
such a loving and caring environment for our terminally
ill children.
